WWII BRITISH RAF "MK VIII" FLIGHT GOGGLES in ORIGINAL ISSUE BOX
WWII BRITISH RAF "MK VIII" FLIGHT GOGGLES.
A pair of lightweight brass frames, about 8" by 3 1/4", painted a dull grey to minimize reflections, mounted on a 3/8" to 1/2" thick leather padding. The split, laminated safety glass, lenses are mounted in the frames and were designed to allow the wearer to use their peripheral vision. The brass frames are stitched to the leather pads which extend slightly out from the edges of the frames to help protect the wearers face. A two piece, adjustable, elasticized fabric strap, one piece is 4" long and ends in a sewn on double looped steel clip while the other piece is threaded through the clip and folded back on itself and ends in a sliding abutment buckle. The two straps are attached to the goggles by sewn on leather ends with "D" rings which are clipped into spring clips. The goggles are in unissued and are in the original cardboard issue box measuring 8” x 4 ˝” x 2”. Box is marked with the description on the top “GOGGLES Mk VIII stores ref.22c/930 with windows.
